    Affordable Bloomington community project secures $1.5 million

    Construction will move forward on a 190-unit affordable housing community thanks to nearly $1.5 million in tax credits approved today by the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee. The tax credits were awarded to the first phase of the community which includes a new County library and community center. Construction is projected to begin early 2015.     Now growing: the future of agriculture at our County Museum

    On Sept. 19, the County Museum opened the Aquaponics Exhibit, a collaborative community garden project built by The Incredible Edible Community Garden, Serving Proud Industries and their local partners. The exhibit utilizes a highly sustainable method of growing that cycles (fertilized) water from a fish tank over a series of plants that digest the fertilizer.  Click here for a video explaining aquaponics.

    Josie joins "Thank a Hero, Hire a Veteran" job fair

    The first annual "Thank a Hero, Hire a Veteran" job fair was held Sept. 19 at the Jessie Turner Community Center in Fontana. Veterans and non-veterans were welcome as dozens of employers were on show. Veterans Partnering With Communities, Inc. (VPWC) organized the event, a nonprofit organization aimed to end veteran unemployment and homelessness. Click here for the entire photo album.

    The Women of St. Bernardine, a new philanthropic foundation benefitting St. Bernardine's Medical Center, held their inaugural luncheon on Sept. 18 where Supervisor Gonzales gave an introductory speech.
