Community Vital Signs
Community Vital Signs for San Bernardino County

The County of San Bernardino is undertaking an effort to address serious challenges to the health of our community. This effort is called the “Community Vital Signs” and the County’s first meeting was held in Montclair on July 29th and dozens of community leaders took place to discuss important issues.

There will be a total of five Regional Community Engagement Meetings held in every Supervisorial District. These will provide a grass-roots forum for leaders to convene, identify problems, and collectively determine the best course of action to address the needs of the County’s residents and specific communities.

Over two dozen discussion topics, for an interactive conversation to garner valuable input and set evidence-based goals and priorities for action to improve our community’s health and well-being, were discussed. These topics were discussed:

  • Access to health professionals, delays in access to health care, health insurance coverage, source of health care
  • Active transportation
  • Breastfeeding, nutrition and access to healthy foods, obesity
  • Cardiovascular disease, diabetes
  • Community safety
  • Educational attainment, high school graduation rate
  • Homelessness, housing affordability
  • Mental health, alcohol/tobacco/other drug use
  • Poverty, unemployment

Goals and Objectives
Goals and Objectives and Department Performance Measures for County Government

Recently the Board of Supervisors has started a new way of evaluating how well County Government performs. These Goals, Objectives and Performance Measures will help County officials to make informed decisions when spending your tax dollars.

This new effort establishes policy goals and strategies to reach those goals to ensure the efficient, effective use of funds. Additionally, it provides tangible measurements to evaluate the County’s performance in realizing its goals and objectives.

This year, the Board asked County departments to develop performance measures to quantify progress toward the goals and objectives based on the Countywide Vision. The Board will receive quarterly progress reports on the plans so funding can be adjusted as necessary. You can view the Goals and Objectives of County Departments here.
