Biography of
Gary C. Ovitt
Fourth District Supervisor
County of San Bernardino, California
Gary Ovitt is the Fourth District Supervisor
and Vice-Chairman for San Bernardino County, California.
First elected in 2004 for a two-year term vacancy, he was
reelected in 2006 for a full four-year term. The Fourth
District is comprised of the cities of Chino, Chino Hills,
Montclair and Ontario. The Fourth District encompasses 133
square miles and is home to over 340,000 residents.
Besides serving as President of the Southern California
Association of Governments (SCAG), Gary Ovitt serves as Vice
Chairman of the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG),
the transportation planning authority for the County.
Supervisor Ovitt is a Board member of Omnitrans, the public
transit agency serving the San Bernardino Valley and is the
San Bernardino County representative on the South Coast Air
Quality Management District.
As a life long educator, having served 35 years as a teacher
and coach, Gary serves as Chairman of the Head Start program
for San Bernardino County and is involved in the Alliance
for Education.
Supervisor Ovitt and his wife Sue have a daughter, Amanda,
who was part of the graduating class of 2005 at Chaffey High
School. Amanda is currently attending Azusa Pacific
University where she is studying nursing.
