Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt lifts a discarded tree branch while unloading a truckload of green waste during the May 12 Wrightwood Fire and Disaster Awareness Day. During the weeklong preparedness week, Wrightwood's effort recycled 217,480 pounds of green waste, which is equivalent to 54 pounds for every resident.
Supervisor Mitzelfelt kicked off the official observance of Wildfire Awareness Week May 7 in Wrightwood. The event culminates May 12 with a large community event in downtown Wrightwood. The event was accompanied by the sound of county slash crews grinding up branches and potential wildfire fuels brought by local residents who are clearing defensible spaces around their homes.
