Oriental Fruit Fly Quarantine Lifted in Rancho Cucamonga/Upland
The quarantine on the movement of fruits and vegetables in effect since August 2002 has been revoked by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The quarantine was revoked because treatments to eradicate the Oriental Fruit Fly were successful. With the lifting of the quarantine, growers and home gardeners can move their fruits and vegetables without restriction again.
Glassy-wing Sharpshooter Update
The program to prevent glassy-winged sharpshooters from infesting the northern portion of California continues to be in effect. All nursery stock destined for uninfested areas must be treated and inspected prior to shipment. Shipments of grapes and citrus must also be inspected.
Liquidambar trees have been found infected by Pierce’s Disease transmitted by the sharpshooter. One variant of Pierce’s Disease called Oleander scorch is killing most of the oleanders along Interstate 10 east of San Bernardino as well as in other locations throughout the County.
