Prior to his election as Auditor/Controller-Recorder, Larry Walker
was elected to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors in 1986,
1990 and 1994, serving as Chair from 1991 to 1993. He served on the
Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the California State
Association of Counties (CSAC), as Vice President and Board member
of the CSAC Finance Corporation, and as Chair of CSAC Government Finance
and Operations Committee. He was later appointed by the State Controller
to serve on the Controller's Committee on County Accounting Procedures.
While on the Board of Supervisors, Walker was a leader on issues
relating to county budget and finance. He has been an important
advocate of the county's effort to employ electronic information
systems wherever it appears that reduced county cost of better service
to county residents would result.
Mr. Walker served as a member and Chair of the Metrolink Board
of Directors, and was the Founding Chair of Metrolink's standing
Audit Committee. He was a member and President of the boards of
both Omnitrans (a local transit agency) and San Bernardino Associated
Governments (SANBAG-the County Transportation Commission). He served
as the appointee of the California Senate President Pro Tem to the
California/Nevada High Speed Rail Commission. He also served as
member and Convenor of the San Bernardino County Children's Network
Policy Council.
The Auditor/Controller-Recorder is a graduate of U.C. Irvine (B.A.
degree, Social Sciences), and of the UCLA School of Law (J.D. degree).
He also completed a course of study in accounting at Cal State University
San Bernardino, and successfully completed the CPA (Certified Public
Accountant) exam. Mr. Walker is both an accountant and an attorney,
with professional experience in real estate transactions and litigation.
He is a former licensed real estate broker.
Larry Walker served as elected Mayor of Chino from 1980 to 1986,
and as a City Council member from 1978 to 1980. He was a Lieutenant
Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve and has received the Naval Unit
Commendation and National Defense Service Medal. Larry, his wife
Carri, and their sons Mac, Will, and Ty, live and raise registered
Hampshire Sheep on their ranch in Chino.
