Dog Licensing Information

When your dog is four months old it MUST BE LICENSED – it’s the LAW! In order to receive a license you must take your dog to a veterinarian who will give your dog a rabies shot. The veterinarian will then give you a RABIES CERTIFICATE.

If your dog is altered (spayed/neutered) when you license him/her at four months of age you will receive a discount on your license fee ($15.00), ($9.00 for senior citizens (65 years or older with proof of age) or permanently disabled people), but you must provide us with a copy of your animal’s spay/neuter certificate (along with the rabies certificate). If your dog is not altered, then you will have to pay a higher fee ($96.00) until you have this procedure done. However, if you license your dog between four and six months of age you may be eligible for spay/neuter credit. For more information, please call the 800 number listed below.

If you live in an area that is serviced by the San Bernardino County Animal Care & Control Program, then you can either

1) visit our main office in person at:

San Bernardino County Animal Care & Control Program
Licensing Department
351 N. Mt. View Avenue
San Bernardino, CA 92415

OR 2) you can mail us your payment and a copy of the rabies certificate (and the spay/neuter certificate)

OR 3) you can bring the rabies certificate (and spay/neuter certificate) to the shelter that services your area (Big Bear or Devore). (If paying in person, please bring CASH!)

If you are not serviced by the San Bernardino County Animal Care & Control Program, you can still call1-800-472-5609 and ask for the shelter location nearest to you.

If you do not have your dog licensed when he/she is four months old (altered or not) you will have to pay a late fee. So make sure that you are a responsible pet owner and comply with the law!

When you get a new dog that is four months of age or older it should be licensed within the first 15 days of acquiring it!
