Field Services

Field Services is responsible for the following:
Animal Control Officer's (ACO's) patrol county areas and enforce all Animal Ordinances. They respond based on priority. For example, a vicious dog on a school yard takes priority over a dog that is contained in someone's garage.
Quarantine animals that bite and provide health checks on them.
Pick-up stray/injured animals.
Respond to animal complaints (i.e. loose dogs,
barking dogs, zoning issues, etc.)
This usually
involves educating residents about animal
laws
(i.e. leash law, nuisance animal
laws, and laws about the number of
animals allowed per household)
.
Provide humane animal traps. Citizens
can rent traps from the Devore Animal
Shelter, which is located at 19777 Shelter
Way in Devore. There is a $20.00 deposit
required and you pay $2.00 per day to rent the trap.
Assist during emergencies (i.e. evacuate animals during brush fires, floods, etc.).
Occasionally, Animal Control Officer's may respond to educational requests. They may be involved in training personnel at county schools, sheriff's departments, police departments, etc. on the correct way to use a control stick or bait a trap. They may also be asked to speak about the best way to avoid dog bites. Sometimes they participate in career days at schools where they share their experiences as an Animal Care & Control Officer.

Animal Control Officer's also allow members of the public to ride-along with them in an Animal Control truck. This makes for a real eye-opening experience! Strict rules must be followed.

All after-hour calls are referred to an answering service. A supervisor is paged and determines the appropriate course of action.

Humane Investigations
Animal Control also has an Animal
Health Investigator that is responsible for:
Looking into all alleged cases of
cruelty and the inhumane treatment
of animals.
Conducting investigations on potentially dangerous & vicious animals.
Educating the public about animal cruelty issues.
