A message from Michael J. Scarpello, Registrar of Voters:
Last year, I accepted the position of the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.
I chose this post because of the many exciting opportunities and the formidable
challenges we face in conducting elections during these difficult economic times.
With a 50 percent reduction in staff, tighter budgets and increased demand for efficiency,
we worked hard to develop a more effective organizational structure and substantially
redesigned our internal processes and procedures at the polling place.
These innovative changes have already resulted in a savings of hundreds of thousands in
taxpayer dollars.
Although, a big step towards the future was accomplished, these changes are just the
beginning. In 2012, there will be significant modifications on how elections are conducted
in California. This upcoming spring our office will be conducting a comprehensive communication’s
effort to inform the public of these mandated changes.
As part of these communication’s efforts, we are developing and building a new website.
Our goal is to assist voters, candidates, election workers, the media and the general public
by providing better access to important information about San Bernardino County elections.
This will enable them to fully participate in the election process.
We are planning on releasing the first phase of the website in March of 2012. Until that time,
the current site is still available and it provides information about the candidate filing process
to persons interested in running for office in 2012. The new website will provide more comprehensive
information about the 2012 Elections.
If you have any difficulties in finding information, or if you have suggestions about what you would
like to see included in the new website, please email me at rovwebmail@rov.sbcounty.gov or call (909) 387-8300.
Sincerely,
MICHAEL J. SCARPELLO
