Insectival at the County Museum
Come explore the world of insects on Saturday, March 24, during “Insectival” at the San Bernardino County Museum. Insect-related activities for families are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. and are free with museum general admission.
“The ‘Insectival’ is a hands-on journey into the world of bugs,” said Nancy Kirkwood, a museum educator. “Families will not only study the insect displays, but they can also meet and learn about live bugs up close and in person.”
The education division has scheduled a whole array of bug games and activities for children, including face painting, story telling, trivia games, and creepy-crawly crafts to take home.
Insect talks by specialists are also lined up for the day. At 1:00 p.m., Sgt. Jim Voss of Victor Valley College will present “CSI: San Bernardino – Insects at the Scene of the Crime.” He will show how forensic entomologists use bugs to help solve crimes. At 3:00 p.m., Dr. Sean Bush of Loma Linda University Medical Center, a world-famous envenomologist and star of the TV show “Venom E.R,” will present “Arachnomania: Why Spiders and Scorpions Bug Us.”
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. All children ages 5 to 12 will be admitted at half price ($2 each) during “Insectival.” Parking is free.
