Museum Gallery Talk on Southwestern Pottery

Curator of Anthropology Adella Schroth will give a gallery talk, “Pottery from Southern California,” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday, September 16 at 2 p.m.  The talk is free with general museum admission.

The museum’s anthropology division cares for thousands of ceramics. Schroth will focus on discussing historic pottery made by Native Americans in the Southern California, showing pictures of examples from the museum collections. She will also explain the process of making a jar, or olla, in the Southern California tradition.

This gallery talk is the first of two that Schroth will present in conjunction with the museum’s special exhibit, “Pottery from the Pueblos.” The second talk, scheduled for October 28, will explore the prehistoric tradition of Southwest pottery.  “Pottery from the Pueblos,” a Native American Traditions exhibit sponsored in part by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, will run through November 5.

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12).
