Museum Admission and Programs Free on Sunday
Admission to the San Bernardino County Museum is free on Sunday, August 6. In addition to exhibits of cultural and natural history relating to inland Southern California and the southwest, visitors will be able to see special exhibits including “If These Buckets Could Talk: tales from the history collections,” “Native American Traditions: Pottery from the Pueblos,” and “Working for a Living.” A new exhibit of textile art, “A Textile Odyssey,” will also be on view in the museum’s Hall of History.
Between noon and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, members of Western Textile Center Association affiliates, including the Bedazzled Beaders, the Embroidery Guild of America, the American Needlepoint Guild, and the Inland Empire Handweavers Guild, will be on hand to demonstrate the traditional techniques used to create the modern textile art on exhibit.
At 2:00 p.m. Curator of History Michele Nielsen will give a free gallery talk related to the photographic exhibit, “Working for a Living,” now on exhibit in the museum’s Schuiling Gallery. “I will share stories behind the images we selected for the exhibit,” said Nielsen. “People’s jobs have changed a lot over the past century. Even if the job is the same, the methods and materials used to accomplish it can be strikingly different. At the gallery talk, I’ll also share some of the original images from the museum archives, including a few of special interest that didn’t ‘make the cut’ for the exhibit itself.
There is no charge for the textile demonstrations or the Gallery Talk.
