Museum Field Trip from Desert Floor to Mountain Top
Can a desert shrub live in the chaparral? Which plants love fire? San Bernardino County Museum Curator of Education Jolene Redvale will lead a trip to explore the plant communities and ecosystems of the Inland Empire, “From Desert Floor to Mountain Top,” on Saturday, April 8. Registration is now open.
“We’ll romp through the plant communities and ecosystems in the inland area,” said Redvale. “Each southern California plant community has distinct species and combinations. You can see the transitions between habitats if you know what to look for. California is very diverse in plant and animal life, and looking closely at plant communities helps to understand why.”
The trip will leave the museum at 8:30 a.m. and return at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $40 per person ($30 for members of the San Bernardino County Museum Association), which includes transportation, snacks, and water; participants should bring their own lunch for a picnic. Children aged 9 and over are welcomed but must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and pre-paid reservations are required by April 1.
Registration forms are available at the museum or on-line at www.sbcountymuseum.org. “From Desert Floor to Mountain Top” is one of a series of field trips organized by the San Bernardino County Museum Association to offer the opportunity to learn about our region’s cultural and natural history accompanied by a museum curator.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org or call (909) 307-2669 or TDD (909) 792-1462.
