Down at the Crossroads
San Bernardino County Museum Curator of History Michele Nielsen will present a museum gallery talk, “Down at the Crossroads,” on Sunday, January 15th at 2 p.m. in the museum’s Hall of History. The presentation is free with museum admission.
Nielsen’s presentation will focus on the upcoming renovation of the museum’s Hall of History. Museum gallery updating is an integral part of the long-range plan of the institution and the Hall of History will be the first gallery space to undergo a transformation. The new exhibits will follow the theme, “Our Southwest: Points in Time” and the reinvented Hall of History will be designated “Crossroads in History.”
“Objects and photographs have the power to convey ideas and concepts in a dynamic way, and the museum sees this hall renovation as an opportunity to share the history of San Bernardino County and the southwestern United States with visitors,” said Nielsen. “Those attending this talk will have an advance look at a few of the artifacts that will become a part of the new permanent exhibits after renovation. With visitor experience and an object-based approach as the focus of the renovation we will talk about some of the innovative technologies and materials that are slated for incorporation into this exciting project.”
“By attending this talk visitors will have the chance to find out about some of the ‘behind the scenes’ work museum staff and the exhibit design team will undertake in order to transform this space,” Nielsen continued. “By the time exhibits are in place, much has gone on that the public might not be aware of. Participants will be real museum insiders, learning about everything from Universal Design considerations to some of the installation challenges that are going to be part of the process.”
