Free Admission at County Museum

The San Bernardino County Museum invites the public to visit the museum in Redlands during regular museum hours with no admission fee on Sunday, April 3. This free admission day is supported by a generous contribution from the San Bernardino County Museum Association.

While at the museum, visitors can enjoy three special exhibits as well as displays of specimens and artifacts that interpret local history, anthropology, geology, paleontology, and biological sciences in regional context. "Bright, Quick, and Ready: Schools in San Bernardino County 1870s-1940s" in the Hall of History galleries uses objects from the museum collections and hands-on activities to explore school days of the past. "A Walk in the Woods," in the Schuiling Gallery, is a traveling exhibit from the Forest Foundation that invites visitors to explore California forests. "Passing Fancies" is an exhibit of Victorian needlework shown in the specially-designed textile cases in the Hall of History.

In conjunction with "Passing Fancies," the museum's education division and the Museum Youth Club will present a special "Family Fun Day" on this free admission Sunday. Activities are designed for families with children who will take a "stitch in time" with a special visit to the "Passing Fancies" exhibit and a chance to try their hands at their own special needlework projects: stitching a potholder or a bookmark, or coloring an authentic Victorian needlework design. Family Fun Day activities are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost $1 per activity.

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Exploration Station live animal gallery will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Everyone will be admitted free on Sunday, April 3; members of the Museum Association, which is sponsoring this free admission day, are admitted free all year 'round.
