Worth a Thousand Words closes soon
“Worth a Thousand Words,” a special exhibit of 20th
century newspaper photography at the San Bernardino County Museum,
will close on October 31, 2004. The exhibit is free with museum
admission.
Images in the exhibit, mounted in the museum’s Hall of
History, were selected and printed from more than 12,000 negatives
dating from the 1950s through the 1970s in the museum’s
San Bernardino Sun-Telegram and Redlands Daily Facts collections.
They were first printed to illustrate newspaper stories. Today,
viewers can look at these images in the context of local history.
“Worth a Thousand Words: Images from the Sun and Redlands
Daily Facts Negative Collections” was created by the Inland
Empire Archival Heritage Center, a part of the San Bernardino
County Museum Archives, and is made possible through generous
support from the Institute for Museum and Library Services and
Congressman Jerry Lewis, representing California’s 41st
Congressional District.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street
exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays
through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission
is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior), and $4 (child aged 5 through
12). Children under 5 and Museum Association members are admitted
free. Parking is free, and the facility is handicapped-accessible.
The museum’s Garden Café is open for lunch, snacks,
and beverages from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit
