AUTHOR TO APPEAR AT COUNTY MUSEUM
Rob Leicester Wagner will be
at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday, January 10, from 1:00 to 3:00
p.m. to meet visitors and sign copies of his new book, "Sleeping Giant."
"Sleeping Giant: An Illustrated
History of Southern California's Inland Empire" is a comprehensive account
of the Inland Empire marching from its historic past to the future. Profusely
illustrated, the volume examines Indians, adobes, citrus and agriculture, pioneers,
architecture, commerce, and industry.
"The Museum Store is unusual
in the retail world," said Blue Anderson, museum store manager. "All
of our merchandise relates directly to museum exhibits and collections, and
all of our proceeds go to the support of the county museum. This volume is an
excellent example of books that we want to have available at the Museum Store.
It is accurate, regional, educational, and entertaining, and it relates directly
to ideas and concepts the museum captures in its programs and exhibits. We are
very pleased that Mr. Wagner will be joining us on Saturday."
Wagner is a longtime Inland Empire
newspaper reporter and editor. He began his career in 1974 working for newspapers
in the Pasadena area before moving to Riverside in 1980 to write for the Corona
Daily Independent. He joined the then-Ontario Daily Report in 1983, worked briefly
with the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, and then returned to Ontario to cover the
court beat for the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. The award-winning reporter
rose through the ranks to become the paper's managing editor. In 2001 he joined
the Record of Stockton, California, as a features editor.
"Visitors who do not have
time to visit the museum galleries but want to shop at the Museum Store or meet
our visiting author should ask for a shopping pass at the museum's front desk
when they arrive," said Anderson. "But of course we encourage everyone
to take the time to see the museum exhibit halls while they are here."
"Sleeping Giant" is for sale at the Museum Store for $29.95 plus tax;
there is a $2 shipping and handling fee for mail orders.
The San Bernardino County Museum
is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum
is open Tuesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission
is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior) and $4 (child aged 5-12). Children under
5 and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free, and the
facility is handicapped accessible. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org
or call (909) 307-2669 / TDD/TTY: (909) 792-1462.
