Construction Begins on County Funded Community Center in Chino Hills

San Bernardino County Supervisor Gary Ovitt spoke on November 15th at the ground breaking of the new Chino Hills Community Center. This new facility will host programs for youth, seniors, and families.

“I am proud to have partnered with the City to build this community center. Six years ago, I brought forward to the County Board of Supervisors a request to use 4 million dollars of discretionary funds to be spent on bringing Chino Hills this Community Center,” said Supervisor Gary Ovitt. “We’ve seen plans come and go, and I am happy to see this become a reality.”

The 21,000 square foot community building will be located on a 6.7-acre site adjacent to the historic McCoy Equestrian Center. A tree-lined pedestrian promenade will connect the McCoy Equestrian Center to the main entry plaza of the new community center. Over three acres of the site will be dedicated to a passive park with a circuitous, paved walking path, an exercise fitness station and seating areas for the public to exercise, play, and relax. A large open lawn area and covered pavilion off the southern patio of the community center will serve as a multi-purpose community gathering venue for weddings, parties and other special events.

Assistance with Home Loan Modification and Foreclosure Prevention

As part of our commitment to preventing foreclosures and accelerating the County’s economic recovery, the County of San Bernardino Economic Development Agency is providing information to San Bernardino County homeowners about taxpayer-funded foreclosure events that are free of charge.

Were you involved in a foreclosure process between January 1, 2008 and December 21, 2011?

You may be eligible for compensation or assistance through the Independent Foreclosure Review or the National Mortgage Settlement.

If your home was in the process of foreclosure proceedings between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 - You may be eligible to request an Independent Foreclosure Review, even if the proceedings did not result in foreclosure. As part of a consent order with the federal government, homeowners whose mortgages were served by certain mortgage companies may be eligible for compensation or other remedies depending upon the results of the foreclosure action. There is no cost for this independent review and it will not affect any other actions or remedies sought by the homeowner. The deadline to apply is December 31, 2012. For more information and to find out if you meet the eligibility criteria, visit the Independent Foreclosure Review website at: http://independentforeclosurereview.com/.

As part of a national settlement between the federal government and five of the mortgage services in the U.S., homeowners whose homes were foreclosed between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011 and meeting certain criteria may be eligible to receive cash payment. These payments are independent of any other forms of assistance that may be available and do not affect eligibility for other programs. The five servicers (Bank of America, Ally/GMAC, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo) mailed notices to eligible homeowners, but if you believe you are eligible and have not received a claim form, call the Mortgage Settlement Administrator at 1-866-430-8358. For more information, go to www.nationalmortgagesettlement.com.

Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services conducts foreclosure prevention workshops twice a month. The last workshop for 2012 will be December 15, 2012 from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
