SB Strong 2016 Plane Pull

The San Bernardino Strong 2016 Plane Pull was exciting! The competition benefited the San Bernardino Police, Sheriff and Fire Services for the critical role they played in protecting the community on December 2nd.

The SB Strong Plane Pull was a team competition with a fire department team and law enforcement team facing off to see which had the strength, stamina and endurance to pull a Boeing 757 aircraft the farthest in 2 minutes.

On the eve of the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center, three New York City Firefighters and three New York City Police Officers volunteered to head west and join the SB Strong Plane Pull teams to illustrate coast-to-coast solidarity in the nation's fight against terrorism. homeless Board Expands Efforts to Address Homelessness

Following the successful County-led effort to house more than 500 homeless veterans in one year, the Board of Supervisors voted this summer to expand that initiative and target chronic homelessness, particularly among youth. This expansion would encompass chronically homeless individuals, including vulnerable veterans and youth, as well as those suffering from mental illness, addiction, or have disabilities.

Supervisor Ramos believes that the cyclical and chronic patterns of homelessness can be broken by focusing on the youth before they reach adulthood. Homeless youth face increased risks of chronic homelessness, including victimization, anxiety disorders, depression, and suicide.

Rails to Redlands Update Rails to Redlands Update

The Rail to Redlands Working Group, headed by Supervisor Ramos, met this summer to update the public on the Redlands Passenger Rail Project. The Redlands Passenger Rail Project seeks to create a 9 mile passenger rail system that will connect the University of Redlands to the San Bernardino Transit Center, alleviating highway congestion while providing an alternative source of transportation to residents. One of the updates shared at the meeting was the process of securing rail system vehicles that will minimize noise and environmental impacts. Other exciting news was securing two major grants; $9.5 million from State Transit Intercity Rail Capital Program, and $8,678,312 from Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) made possible through Congressman Pete Aguilar’s office.

Passenger service is expected to start in 2020.

Download the “Ready SB” App

The County of San Bernardino Office of Emergency Services (County OES) has created an app that equips residents with the tools and information needed to prepare for emergencies and stay safe. Some of the unique features the app provides are push notifications, which alerts users of emergency situations around them; and evacuation information with live traffic route stats and shelter maps. The app was made possible through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and is the first of its kind in California. Internet connection is not necessary to use the app’s features. Ready SB is now available as a free download from the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.
