Elected in June 2014, and sworn in on January 5, 2015, as the San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder and appointed County Clerk, Senator Bob Dutton (Ret.) represents more than two million residents from the largest county in the United States.
As the San Bernardino County Assessor, Bob Dutton brings a real ‘common sense’ approach to the position. “Our goal is to fairly and accurately assess all property in San Bernardino County. We are working to inform property and business owners of potential opportunities available to help lower their property taxes.”
Assessor-Recorder Dutton first served on the Rancho Cucamonga City Council from 1998 to 2002. He then served two years in the California State Assembly and eight years in the California State Senate before retiring from the State Legislature in 2012. Prior to his public service, he spent over 40 years in the fields of real estate investment and management.
His experience in both the private sector and the legislature gives him a unique understanding of the effect government has on the economy and the individual property owner. Assessor Dutton’s extensive background in the real estate industry, management experience and common-sense approach to problem solving enables him to well serve the residents of San Bernardino County.
Always aware of the importance of giving back to the community, Assessor Dutton has served as Chairman or board member for numerous community and civic organizations and is a member of several professional organizations. As a coach for his daughter’s fast-pitch softball team, he mentored dozens of students who later received scholarships to attend college. He proudly served in the Army Reserve, was a member of the California Air National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1974.
A native of Nebraska, he moved to California in 1969. He is married to Andrea Guillen, a fourth generation Chino resident who is the Professor and Program Director of Radiology at Chaffey Community College. They have a daughter, Kara, who works in the banking industry.
